Removing a User from the Welcome Screen

This trick is very good if you want to hide a user from everyone else. It hides it from the user list on the log-on screen and it hides it from the control panel. This is done by a simple hack in the registry. You will do this hack in the place where Microsoft puts all of their user accounts that they want to hide too.

  1. Go to the start menu and open "Run". Type in regedit and click OK.
  2. This will start the Registry Editor. //you are going to want to expand the following keys:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE, Software, Microsoft, Windows NT, CurrentVersion, Winlogon, SpecialAccounts, and UserList.
  3. You should now see a list of account names that re hidden on your machine. To add an account to that, right click in the box and click New => DWORD value. Enter the user name you want to hide in the diolog box that pops up and click OK.
After you do this the user will not be showed on the log on sceen or the control panel. to log on to the account, make sure all of the users are logged off and then press CTRL+ALT+DELETE once, twice, and you will be able to type in the name of the user and the password.

If you ever want to undo this, go back to the entry you made in the System Registry and delete the entry.
